Celebrities Who Looked Very Different Before They Were Famous

Gwen Stefani

You could definitely say that Gwen Stefani has come a long way from being the girl in the braces. When Stefani was 17 years old, her older brother Eric invited her to provide vocals for a new ska band he was forming called “No Doubt” (he was actually the keyboardist in the band until he left to work on The Simpsons television show). From there, as they say, the rest is history.

Between her work as the lead singer of No Doubt, and her solo efforts, Stefani has sold over 30 million albums worldwide over her career. As hard as this is to image, Stefani is only months away from her 49th birthday, and she’s still in the studio producing albums, including a holiday album she released in December of 2017.

Jennifer Lopez

The old saying goes that “men are like fine wine; they get better with age.” But, Jennifer Lopez would beg to differ, because you could say the exact same thing about her. How else do you explain the fact that she’ll turn 49 years old in the summer of 2018, but could still pass for a woman half her age?

Lopez is estimated to be worth over $320 million… and that’s even after three divorces, as she was married to Cuban actor Ojani Noa (for a year), choreographer Chris Judd (for two years), and singer Marc Anthony (for a decade). That still hasn’t stopped Lopez from being named one of the most influential celebrities in the world, and one of the most powerful women in the world as well.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner is the youngest of the Jenner/Kardashian brood, and at 21 years old, she might be primed to overtake her sisters as the true reality television and fashion mogul of the family. Her entire life is documented in one way or another, either through her “Life of Kylie” reality TV show, or through her social media feeds (she has over 106 million followers on Instagram).

After an up-and-down relationship with rapper “Tyga,” Jenner recently had a daughter — whom she named Stormi Webster — with rapper Travis Scott. True to form, Kylie posted a selfie with her new baby girl only days after the latter’s arrival.

Kendall Jenner

The older of the two daughters that Kris Jenner had with Bruce Jenner, Kendall Jenner might not have her own reality television show, but she’s one of the top 15 most followed celebrities on Instagram, and was named by Forbes as the World’s Highest-Paid model — taking the title from Gisele Bundchen — having earned $22 million in 2017. In between modeling for Victoria’s Secret and Estée Lauder, Jenner recently struck up a romance with NBA star Blake Griffin, who used to play for the Los Angeles Clippers.

But with Griffin’s trade to the Detroit Pistons (and his subsequent relocation), the two of them have been a little bit on the outs, because of the distance. Jenner wasn’t too thrilled with Griffin immediately prior to that, when Griffin’s ex Brynn Cameron — whom he has two children with — filed a palimony suit against him.

Ivanka Trump

President Donald Trump certainly favors his first born child in a way that many parents would… although most fathers wouldn’t be quite as forward about the extent of their daughter’s attractiveness. But such is life when your father was always something of womanizer. But thanks to her ridiculously wealthy upbringing, combined with a very intelligent brain (she graduated cum laude from the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania) and the looks of a prototype Eastern European model, Ivanka is positioned as the heir apparent to her father’s business empire. At only 36 years old, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are estimated to be worth upwards of $740 million.

Melania Trump

Melania Trump has been something of a fixture in the political tabloids since her infamous husband began his candidacy for President of the United States. It’s highly rumored that she wanted no part of potentially becoming, First Lady, and her relationship with Donald Trump might be on the rocks — putting it politely — thanks to all the sordid allegations emerging about Trump’s past.

This wasn’t necessarily the life that Melania Knauss (her maiden name) had in mind when she moved to the United States in the early 1990’s; she just wanted to pursue a career in modeling. But after meeting her future husband at a party at Times Square nightclub “Kit Kat Club,” she officially found herself in more of the spotlight… for better or for worse.

Kim Kardashian West

Kim Kardashian went from the beautifully exotic friend of Paris Hilton to perhaps the most famous reality television star on the planet. Of course, her “adult video” with hip hop star Ray-J, along with very public romances with professional athletes like Reggie Bush and Kris Humphries, as well as her marriage to hip hop mogul Kanye West, certainly helped amplify her fame.

But even as a kid, she was used to running in celebrity circles. Her first boyfriend was Michael Jackson’s nephew T.J. Jackson, and her 14th birthday party was held at Michael Jackson’s Neverland ranch. She even tried to leverage her half-brother, Brody Jenner, to try and get a spot on MTV’s hit show “The Hills.”

Khloe Kardashian

Khloe Kardashian went from the sister whom many snide bloggers and social media commentators referred to the “oversized” and “not as pretty” sister, to a fitness and multi-media mogul in her own right. We’re all very familiar with the highly tumultuous marriage she had with former NBA star Lamar Odom, whom she married after meeting just one month earlier.

Despite allegations of his drug use and adultery, Kardashian stuck by his side. But leading up to the couples divorce in 2016, Kardashian got in absolutely amazing shape, which led to her launching the “docu-series” called Revenge Body with Khloe Kardashian. Now dating NBA player Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the couple is expecting a child together sometime in the spring of 2018.

Lady Gaga

Her official name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, but you know her simply as “Lady Gaga,” the six-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and actress whose numerous singles were incredibly catchy, and more importantly, who has become an icon in the LGBT community.

Lady Gaga is another product of hit-factory of Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope records, when the label — through the suggestion of singer Akon — signed her to a deal in 2007. Today, Gaga is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, and was named Billboard’s “Woman of the Year” in 2015.

Scarlett Johansson

We all know that everything about Scarlett Johansson screams “sexy”: the flawless looks, the curvy body, the eyes that can pierce through anything, and that raspy voice that brings men to their knees. After all, she’s dated guys like Grammy Award-winning singer Jack Antonoff, one-time male heartthrob Josh Hartnett, and even Ryan Reynolds; many people forget that Reynolds and Johansson got married in 2008, and their marriage lasted almost three years.

But in 2011, Johansson and Reynolds split, and at 27 years old, she was back on the market. Naturally, it didn’t take long before she started dating Romain Dauriac, a French businessman who owned an advertising agency. Johansson and Dauriac got married in 2014, and while the couple had two children together, that marriage didn’t last as well, as the couple split up in 2017.

Here’s a fun fact: Adele Laurie Blue Adkins — whom we all know simply as “Adele” — was officially “discovered” after a friend posted her demo on Myspace. Imagine that. One year later, she released an album titled “19” — which was her age at the time of release (in 2008), which was certified seven times platinum in the United Kingdom. Her follow-up album “21” (which was also her age when it was released) was certified 16 times platinum in the UK, and was even mentioned in the Guiness Book of World Records.

She was the first woman in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have three simultaneous top 10 singles as a lead artist. In her personal life, Adele is married to “charity entrepreneur” Simon Konecki, and the couple has a son named Angelo together, who was born in 2012.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively might’ve grown up looking like the simple girl next door. But these days, she’s the envy of nearly every woman: the perfect looks, the immaculate body, the ability to pull off being a mom, wife, and professional actress so flawlessly. Oh, and she has Ryan Reynolds too. It’s almost not fair.

When Lively was pregnant with the couple’s second child — their daughter Ines, born in the summer of 2017 — Lively reportedly put on 61 lbs during the pregnancy. And, of course, with a big assist from a personal trainer, the 30-year old Lively lost virtually all of it, flaunting her rocking post-pregnancy body on Instagram. Again, it’s just not fair.

Gigi Hadid

You could say that Gigi Hadid went from being an “athletic and beautiful” kid to a “ridiculously beautiful but still athletic” adult. In high school, Hadid was the captain of her varsity volleyball team (the fact that she’s 5’10 certainly helps), and like her sister Bella, Hadid was a competitive horseback rider as well. Gigi — whose real name is Jelena Noura Hadid — paved the road for younger sister Bella and younger brother Anwar to also drop out of school to pursue a full-time modelling career.

These days, her sport of choice has become boxing, as she’s led a group of models who swear by boxing as a way to stay in shape, and feel better about protecting themselves from potential predators.

Bella Hadid

It must be nice to be named “Model of the Year” by your peers, before you’re old enough to purchase an adult beverage of your own. Growing up in Santa Barbara, California, Isabella Khair Hadid actually was a highly accomplished equestrian, who wanted to complete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

But a bout with Lyme disease derailed those dreams, so she went from a world-class horse rider to a world-class model. After being a bit of a tabloid fixture, thanks to her arrest for driving under the influence, and her romance with Canadian singer The Weeknd, Hadid has been more active on the activist scene, openly stating her dissent towards many of President Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim actions.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston went from being a pretty brunette to “America’s Sweetheart,” thanks to her recurring role as Rachel Green on the generation-defining television sitcom Friends. The millennial crowd will undoubtedly remember Aniston and Brad Pitt as the Hollywood dream couple, until they divorced after five years of marriage; we’re sure the extended time Pitt spent with Angelina Jolie, whom he subsequently married, had nothing to do with it.

In fact, Anniston came out of that divorce as the one everyone was rooting for, especially given how she seemed to get hotter with age. She hasn’t been shy in showing plenty of skin in films like “Horrible Bosses” and “Just Go With It,” and with a body like hers, she deserves to be proud of it. Sadly enough, those looks weren’t enough to keep actor Justin Theroux around either, as the couple seems to be headed towards splitsville after marrying in 2015.

Charlize Theron

There probably isn’t a man — or woman — alive who wouldn’t agree that Charlize Theron is flawless. She’s never been one of those women who is overtly “hot” or “sexy.” Rather, she’s just perfect, in the sense that her looks are literally without flaws. Add in the fact that she’s an extremely talented actress — she’s won the Academy Award, Silver Bear, Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress, among other accolades — and you see why she’s literally “The Perfect 10” in the eyes of many people.

Theron was actually born in South Africa, and didn’t become a United States citizen until 2007. To this day, she still retains a partial South African citizenship.

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys might be single handedly responsible for combining the idea of playing the piano and making R&B ballads a successful combination. While most people remember her for her hit single “No One,” or being the lead vocalist on Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” Keys won five Grammy awards in 2002 for her album Songs in a Minor, which was headlined by the beautifully soulful “Fallin’.”

Billboard magazine named Keys the top R&B artist of the 2000’s, and ranked her #10 on the list of Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the Past 25 Years. Keys married Kasseem Dean — better known as “Swizz Beats” — in 2010, and the couple has two children together.

Kristen Stewart

Most people don’t realize that Kristen Stewart made her film debut when she was only 10 years old (albeit in an uncredited role). But when Kristen Stewart became a Hollywood fixture, after the release of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” she was only 19 years old. Eight years later, she’s one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, earning over $34.5 million a year at one point.

In February of 2017, Stewart described herself as “so gay” when appearing on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, and later on clarified that she was bisexual. While she’s been dating British Victoria’s Secret angel model Stella Maxwell, she has professed to being open to possibly dating men again at some point.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears packed an entire lifetime worth of experiences before she even turned 25 years old. Spears went from a small town in Mississippi to the cast of “The Mickey Mouse Club” (alongside Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, and Keri Russell) to a double-platinum solo artist in her debut album. And, of course, who could forget her jaw-dropping performances on at the 2000 and 2001 MTV Video Music Awards?

Sadly, we all know that her life became a bit of a trainwreck afterwards, with the head-shaving incident and failed marriage to Kevin Federline. As a result, her father (Jamie Spears) and family attorney (Andrew M. Wallet) were named conservators of Britney’s estate, and they were legally put in charge of  her medical care, career moves, and all monetary transactions.

Christina Aguilera

With her hit single “Genie In A Bottle,” Christina Aguilera versus Britney Spears became the late 1990’s version of “Coke vs. Pepsi” — they were the unquestioned superpowers of their industry. Like Spears, Aguilera was another alumna of “The Mickey Mouse Club,” but while Spears’ career flamed out earlier, Aguilera has sold more than 50 million records worldwide.

She might not be sitting atop the music world like she once was, but she’s far from being irrelevant, either; Time magazine listed Aguilera among the top 100 Most Influential People in the World of 2013, thanks to her charitable work for human rights and world issues. Of course, her work on NBC’s “The Voice” helps keep her name in the news as well.

Megan Fox

Nobody thought that Megan Fox would skyrocket into becoming one of the newest female sex symbols of the 2000’s when she was making non-descript appearances in films including Bad Boys II and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. But as soon as a (then) 19-year old Fox, wearing Daisy Duke-style miniature jean shorts, popped open the hood of the car that turned out to be Autobot Bumblebee in the 2007 Transformers film, every guy in America fell in love.

Like most guys, they didn’t really care that Fox couldn’t — and still can’t — act to save her life, to the point where director Michael Bay chose not to cast her in the third film of the Transformers trilogy. Interestingly enough, despite her “sex icon” status, Fox calls herself “asocial,” and admitted that she’s only been sexually intimate with “childhood sweetheart” (and current husband) Brian Austin Greene.

Olivia Munn

Before she played the character Sloan Sabbath on HBO’s “The Newsroom,” Munn’s early break in the acting game came as one of the co-hosts of “Attack of the Show!,” which provided commentary on a combination of entertainment and technology-related news. But Munn — whose real first name is Lisa (and her middle name is Olivia) — parlayed her work in “The Newsroom” into a few more film roles.

In her personal life, Munn generated some waves as she dated quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, when Rodgers family accused Munn of being the source of Rodgers’ estranged relationship with the rest of his family. Munn and Rodgers broke up in the summer of 2017.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty is the Barbadian-born singer, songwriter, and actress that’s basically on her way to becoming the next Beyoncé. Though she claims to have been a Tomboy when growing up, Rihanna competed in beauty pageants as a teenager (and won), and also won a talent show after doing a rendition of Mariah Carey’s “hero.”

Eventually, that led to her recording a few demo tapes, one of which was heard by hip hop impresario Jay-Z, who signed her to Def Jam records. As we all know, Rihanna and Jay-Z have had an “interesting” relationship, to say the least. Nonetheless, having just turned 30 years old in February of 2018, Rihanna is on top of the Hollywood world right now.

Sofia Vergara

Sofia Vergara is the talented, charming, and hilarious actress whom everyone knows because of her work on ABC’s hit sitcom “Modern Family.” But outside of her stunning looks and seductive accent, nearly every man — and many women, for sure — can’t take their eyes off her because of her two ample “assets,” which she’s never been afraid of flaunting.

The Colombian American actress and model was named among the most powerful women in the world by Forbes magazine, and in 2016, the same publication reported she was the highest-paid actress in television, earning $43 million that year.
