Private amphitheater? Waterfall? Ballroom? These extravagant amenities are not found in your typical “starter home.” But for some of Hollywood’s hottest actors and tech’s biggest players, they’re absolute necessities in order to be able to call their house a home.
Simply put, the homeowners on this exclusive list are living a life of luxury. From J-Lo’s Bel-Air estate to Mark Wahlberg’s French palace, we give you the best of the best in celebrity real estate. Enjoy.
Only last year, Dwayne Johnson bought this $3.4 million Florida mansion from Miami Dolphin Vernon Carey. The 13,000 square foot property holds six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a home movie theater, pool and sprawling grounds, cranking the full square footage up to a round 100,000.
With a Fate of the Furiousspinoff and Jurmanji 2 in the pipeline for 2019, the Rock has no time to slack off in the gym – in fact he gets up at a grueling 5am and works out six days a week to maintain that epic 260 lbs. frame. To that end, this body-building oracle has designed his own $300k ‘iron paradise’ within his South Ranches home; a white-bricked outhouse complete with a hefty 40,000 lbs. of equipment, including custom-made 150 lbs. free-weights and full kitchen for mid-sess snacks.
The Kardashian star has been doing the real-estate rounds; barely a year after swapping her $1.4m condo for Devil Wears Pradastar Emily Blunt’s $6.9m mansion nestled in the canyons of Hollywood Hills, the 21-year old model has now bought Charlie Sheen’s former home – an $8.5m Spanish-style haven in Beverley Hills.
The sprawling 6,625 square foot home features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a movie theater, swimming pool, spa, fire pit, tennis courts and an all-important adventure playground for when the numerous nieces and nephews visit. Scattered fountains and water features deck the exterior, while inside, there is a distinct hacienda feel – think looming archways, terracotta mosaics and marble pillars.
After a turbulent time with a gaggle of stalkers, burglars and trespassers getting past the gates, Rihanna sold her former Pacific Palisades home for a hefty $15m. While having a 27-year old man break in and claim to be your ‘future husband’ would give anyone second thoughts on their living space, the pop icon was at least able to rent the modern Caribbean-style villa out for a casual $65,000 a month while she house-hunted.
The carefully constructed tropical paradise vibe may have been ruined for RiRi, but it’s easy to see the relaxed Barbadian influence: the one-acre hilltop estate holds seven bedrooms, seven baths with rainforest showers, and a pool and spa area, flanked by a large waterfall and a 6000 square foot garden.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z
The billion-dollar couple dropped $88m on their Bel-Air home along infamous mansion strip Cuesta Way at the backend of 2017. From the outside this stark, bullet-proof structure has a monolithic feel, but that’s softened by the four infinity pools and grassy areas that strew the rooftop, creating an extra 10,000 square feet of living space.
The house itself is on a 30,000 square feet plot and includes a full-size basketball court and recording studio (why wouldn’t it?) Security is rumored to be a massive concern for the couple, who are spending swathes of time away from home with their On the Run 2 tour. They’ve submitted building permits to fortify the two-acre compound with separate living quarters for a 24/7 security team that will ensure every inch of the property is manned at all times. They’ll also be constructing a 10-vehicle carport, just for good measure.
For anyone with a tidy $42m in their back pocket, The Friends star’s Los Angeles house is currently on the market following her split from actor Justin Theroux in February 2018. Jen originally picked up the property for $21m and worked with Stephen Shadley – personal designer to Woody Allen and Diane Keaton – to completely gut and re-work the interiors, using a blend of modernism and soft touches.
She christened the five bedrooms, seven bath house ‘Ohana’, meaning ‘extended family’ in Hawaiian, although the bronze interiors, wall-mounted koi pools in the living room and 20-foot stone and glass veranda have more the hallmarks of a Balinese spa retreat. A ridiculously luxurious heated patio wraps around the 10,000 square foot property, which overlooks Beverley Hills.
Kim & Kanye
The hip-hop star may be in Kim’s bad books after sharing photos of their $20m mansion on Twitter, despite agreeing that their home should remain a mystery to press and fans. Throwing another $20m at home improvements, they’ve decked the eight-bedroom 10-bath place with a full recording studio and movie theater. Outside, the 3.5 acres of land hold two pools, two spas and two private wineries. They’ve also added a two-story children’s area for North and gang so the kids have their dream playroom while mummy and daddy sip vino.
Décor wise they’ve taken minimalist to the extreme. Floor-to-ceiling whites and grays wash over the cloister-like entrance ways. It kind of looks like a museum. Or a marble tomb. Take your pick.
Chrissy Teigen & John Legend
This endearing Hollywood couple’s tranquil white-washed villa-esque home had a little shake up this summer, with the addition of baby son Miles Stevens. His superstar dad isn’t the only music artist to have graced the property over the years; Rihanna originally bought it for a little under $7m back in 2009 but then sold it at a loss in 2011 following numerous security scares.
Now double the price, the five-bedroom, eight-bathroom, 8,520 square foot property has a fair few perks; namely full-size gym, movie theater and 360° views of ocean, city and canyon. With Chrissy’s cooking hacks blowing up Instagram and her recipe book Cravings hitting the shelves last April, it’s no surprise that this LA pad has a giant open-plan kitchen with pretty much every chef gadget you can imagine.
For most of us, it’s the kind of vacation resort we’re too penniless to even dream about. For the Smith family, it’s home: built from scratch across a 150-acre plot, this fresh prince of Calabasas has a house so big it needs its own ZIP code. Pretty much every feature is a one-of-a-kind in this Californian casa, from the front door (salvaged from a fort in North India) to the crystal chandeliers that adorn the dining room.
With nine bedrooms, a free-form pool, full recording studio, meditation room, film screening room and oodles of open-plan perfection, Will and wife Jada have a nice little setup, while daughter Willow has enough space to whip her hair all day long. The best bit? A man-made lake meandering around the grounds, complete with gazebo.
When it comes to real estate, Bieber is not the monogamous type, working his way through six rental properties since finding fame – and leaving an impressive trail of destruction in his wake during his sketchier periods. His current abode is a sleek mega-mansion on Sunset Strip in LA, which he rents for a meagre $55,000 per month. Unsurprisingly, it has the makings of an epic party house: it takes up 6,060 square feet, has a two-story living room, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and a pool that lights up a striking azure blue at night and looks out over West Hollywood. Basically, for this 24-year old pop star, life is a music video.
However, the rental only boasts three bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms (practically slumming it) and after dating for approximately seven minutes, he and new fiancé Hailey Baldwin are on the hunt for a bigger place to find domestic bliss together. Rumors are brewing of a shiny new $10.9m estate in Brentwood, California. Watch this space.
Like any good southern girl, Miley is choosing to kick it country-style at this farmhouse in Franklin Tennessee, just down the road from where she grew up. It spans 6,690 square feet and has a classic ranch feel, complete with wrap-around porch, five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. What’s less run of the mill, is the huge wet bar, mini golf course, spa, rooftop patio and elevator – because you know, sometimes a flight of stairs is just a bit much. The $5.8m price tag is slightly steeper than your average too.
It sounds like the ex Disney diva isn’t completely set on southern life however: it’s rumored that she also has her eye on the original Brady Bunch house in Studio City, California, but with NSYNC member Lance Bass also sniffing around the property she may have a battle on her hands.
The US record producer bought his Beverly Hills mansion from British singer Robbie Williams in 2017. With seven bedrooms and eleven bathrooms to boot, this 10,680 square foot property has all the usual suspects: sweeping spiral staircase, gym, insane pool, lush views overlooking city, mountain and canyon. And like all millionaire musicians, a full-size recording studio was seemingly a prerequisite for Khaled, with his being put to use most recently to lay down new track ‘No Brainer’.
Williams originally stuck the house on the market for $11m but wily Khaled somehow haggled him down to a mere $9.9m. Bargain.
Justin Timberlake & Jessica Biel
The effortlessly cool combo have plenty of luxurious beachside properties dotted around US coast lines but they spend most of their time in more urban dwellings, or at 443 Greenwich Street, Manhattan, to be precise. The crazy exclusive apartment building is actually a late 19thcentury factory conversion and claims to be paparazzi-proof due in part to its heavily closeted motor court. The privacy factor is what makes the complex so alluring to a string of A-listers that make up JT and Jessica’s neighbors, including Harry Styles, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Lawrence, Rebel Wilson, Meg Ryan and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The couple’s apartment is a particular good’un as it comes with a 5,000 square foot terrace with epic views across the city. The four bedrooms, six bathrooms, indoor pool and Turkish bath ladder up to an eye watering $20m – still 26% less than the original asking price, making this 30 times more expensive than the average home in NYC.
Forget gyms. Forget massage rooms. Adele’s $9.5m pad has its own treehouse. #priorities. Whether it’s for son Angelo’s benefit or the singer herself we do not know, but it surely bags her a place on the list of ridiculously cool celeb homes. The 6,500-square-foot, four-bedroom house also has its own wine cellar and an awesome pool, surrounded by towering trees and framed with fairy lights.
The sprawling mansion is set within a gated community In, wait for it… Beverley Hills. But unlike her many Hollywood counterparts, the Grammy winner’s home has a definite English cottage vibe – less glass panels and marble entrance ways, more exposed beams and French doors. You can take the girl out of London but…
Previously owned by Jessica Simpson and Ellen DeGeneres, the Hunger Games star’s $7m pad is one special home. There’s something a bit fairy tale about the façade, with cascading flowers and vines twisting round much of the exterior. She’s got five bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms and 5,550 square feet to play with inside, while the courtyard, strewn with ivy and fringed with twinkly lights, is nothing short of magical. A far cry from District 12, J-Law’s neighbors in the gated community include Hollywood A-listers Cameron Diaz, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.
Oh, did we mention it’s in Beverley Hills?
Surrounded by forestry and looking out over downtown LA, this place is a chilled-out hillside retreat that’s about as secluded and natural as you can get when you’re living in celeb city. While the singer recently snapped up a lux Manhattan apartment with fiancé Pete Davidson, it’s at this Hollywood Hills hangout that she gets all her R&R.
The 6,230 square feet plot is cut into the mountainous landscape and holds five-bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and an outdoor pool with adjoining hot tub where the Side to Side singer can unwind. The rental price on a pad like this? About as high as her ponytail – $50,000 per month.
This place. Holy hell. Everyone’s favorite talk show host put her former Santa Barbara home on the market for $45m last year in order to downsize to a modest $18.6m mansion along Carpinteria beachfront. The 17-acre plot is shared with wife Portia Rossi’s own sizeable property, but it’s this one that’s the real stunner.
Modelled on a 17th century Tuscan villa, its cavernous interiors are decked with bespoke fittings and unique features including dome-shaped windows and nine intricate fire places. it has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, multiple libraries,a glittering lap pool and sunken tennis courts. It’s capped off with a sunset view over the ocean. It’s lucky Ellen is such a loveable soul because this one’s really testing our jealousy limits.
Built from scratch over many years, this 30,000 square foot French manor in Beverly Hills is nothing short of a palace. The imposing frontage gives off a distinctly regal feel and an investigation of the 6-acre plot reveals a home theater, gym, wine cellar, library, putting green and a 2,200-square-foot loggia with coffered ceilings, limestone floors and outdoor fireplace. The actor even had a pool designed with a diving rock cut from the hillside and two separate waterfalls (because when is one ever enough?)
The guy that masterminded the whole thing – architect Richard Landry – pegs it as a ‘traditional family home’. Lol!
He pretty much owns the internet so it stands to reason that the Amazon founder would also possess the largest property in the whole of Washington, D.C. Currently undergoing a $12m renovation, Bezos originally secured the former textile museum for $23m earlier this year.
The 27,000 square feet building is in the upscale Kalorama neighborhood and the current plan is to transform the whole thing into two separate buildings: ‘Pope of the Wood’ will be the family home, featuring 11 bedrooms, 25 bathrooms (not a typo), five living rooms, five staircases, three kitchens, two libraries, two workout rooms, two elevators and a whiskey cellar. The adjacent ‘Wood House’ will serve as the tech mogul’s entertainment venue, complete with catering kitchen, staff offices and a cheeky ballroom.
