Travel Hack: How To Get A Cheap Spirit Airlines Ticket Even Cheaper

Get In The Spirit Of Summer Travel: How To Get A Cheap Spirit Airlines Ticket Even Cheaper

Dare we say it’s enough to lift your spirits? Low airline fares are a mainstay of Spirit Airlines but you may be surprised to know that it’s possible to snag a ticket that’s even cheaper. Read on to learn how easy it is to save on your seat.

Buy Your Spirit Airlines Ticket At The Airport

Buying plane tickets at an airport is usually more expensive than either booking over the phone or online. But such is not the case with Spirit Airlines. Buy your ticket at the airport and you can bypass what the airline calls a “Passenger Usage Fee.” On average, the cost of the fee is $19.99 per person, per flight, which can really add up. A family of four purchasing round-trip tickets could save about $150 by booking right at the airport. The downside? You could end up waiting in a long line so it’s best to plan to visit the airport at a slower time of day to avoid the aggravation of working your way towards the ticket counter at a snail’s pace.

The Same Goes For Allegiant

When it comes to Allegiant tickets, buying at the airport is cheaper than buying over the phone or online but it’s somewhat more difficult to do as compared to purchasing Spirit tickets. Allegiant has an “Electronic Carrier Usage Charge” that adds about $18 per person, per segment. Over-the-phone booking will add a “Call Center Booking Fee” to your purchase at the rate of $14.99 per person, per segment. The difficulty in purchasing Allegiant tickets at the airport lies in finding a ticket counter that’s open. According to the FAQ section of Allegiant’s website:  “Airline tickets for same-day travel may be purchased at the airport ticket counter based on availability. Airport ticket counter hours are limited and vary by location.”

Truth be told, Allegiant airport ticket counter hours and locations are quite limited due, in part, to the fact that Allegiant is a small airline that frequently flies into and out of tiny airports. But if you have some free time on your hands and you’re looking to save some cash, making a trip to the airport at specific times can be worth your while. Check the Allegiant website for airport ticket counter schedules and locations so that you don’t end up wasting time in the badly-lit airport lounge instead of taking off into the wild blue yonder.
