Life sometimes exposes us to the strangest things. At some point in our lives, we’ve all seen a disfigured shadow at the end of a hallway or heard an un-natural noise coming from behind a closed door. To save our own sanity, we tell ourselves that it’s our imagination. But we know deep down that these vivid experiences were just too real to be ignored.
In this article you’ll find some of the most goosebump-inducing true stories from people who have encountered things and situations that just can’t be explained by modern science.

1. Who is Fathers Friend?
My brother and I were home alone one night watching TV. My mother was working a night shift and father was out. Father came home and pushed the door ajar and poked his head through to say hello, we both turn around and say hello back, father closed door. Thirty seconds after, another man opens the door to say hello, we both turn around and say hello back, man closes door. We assume a friend of my father has come back to the house too. Anyway about five minutes later I head into the kitchen where my father was, making dinner or whatever and I’m expecting to see his friend again. I see that he’s alone making dinner and assumed his friend was upstairs in the bathroom.
I ask my father who his friend is. My father looks at me and asks me, “What friend?” I reply, “The guy who came back with you” Dad looks at me thinking I’m some sort of weirdo. He says “I came back home on my own”. Biggest whaaaaaaaaaaaat?! I’ve ever experienced. Remembering the man’s face, he was pale looking and bright white hair.
2. The Creepy Premonition
When my oldest sister was little, like 3, she asked my then pregnant aunt to pick her up to hold her. My mom said she was like “she can’t pick you up, honey, she has a baby in her tummy.” And then my little sister was like “there’s no baby in there!” My mom freaked out, but my aunt and grandma were fine and were telling my mom it was all good, she was just a toddler and didn’t know what she was saying.
Well lo and behold my aunt goes to the doctor the next day for a routine pregnancy checkup and my sister was right. Gives me the willies just thinking about it.
3. The Man Who Disappeared
My mom and I are on the train, and this train had a bathroom on it. When we got on there was standing room only, so we and about five other people were standing by the bathroom. This older man, about 45, starts chatting with us. He asks where we’re from and other stuff. He was very kind to me and my mother. So as we’re riding along a man comes out of the bathroom in quite a huff, and the kind man we’d been talking to excuses himself to go to the bathroom. The train is moving at full speed at this point.
A couple minutes later, a woman and her small child ask if the bathroom is occupied, so all of us who were standing around the bathroom answer yes. Five minutes pass, then ten minutes, until she becomes skeptical. She pulls open the door, and it’s unlocked. The bathroom is empty. There are no windows in this bathroom. There is only one door. We all agreed we hadn’t seen him leave, and all of us who had been there when he went in were dumbfounded. Where had this guy gone? I never found out. I never saw him again. I still have no idea what happened.
4. Help Me!
A lady’s voice coming from my closet asking for help. My closet door was cracked and she said, “Help me. I see you through the cracks.” Every synonym for the word scared was coursing through my body.
I went and checked to see if there was a woman in need of help but nothing was in there but my clothes and shoes.
5. My Daughter is a Reincarnation?
Several years ago, when my daughter was just over 3 years old, my husband and I were watching a TV show about 9/11. It was on or around the anniversary of the event. My daughter, who was coloring nearby, looked up when the screen showed a plane hitting one of the World Trade Center buildings, she said to us, ‘I died there.’
Then she just went back to coloring like she hadn’t said a word. We had never talked to her about the concept of death, and had never discussed 9/11 with her. Since then she has not said anything else about it, but now if something comes on TV about 9/11, she says, ‘I don’t want to watch this.’
6. The Cold Presence
I was sitting in my college dorm room once when the temperature suddenly started dropping like crazy. I turned the heat up as high as it would go but it just kept getting colder. I took out my winter clothes and started putting them on. This was like in late September/early October in New York so it wasn’t cold outside at all.
I was just about to go ask for maintenance when my roommate got back from hockey practice and asked why there were so many police cars and ambulances outside. I had no idea. Later that night, we were informed a girl who lived in the dorms had died. Everyone who I’ve told about this says that I felt her death. I was in that same room for 3 years and that was the only time I ever had problems with the temperature.
7. Grandpa Wants His Chair Back!
We went down to my grandparent’s house in Florida for a long weekend to attend the funeral, etc. We’re all chatting the first night there in the living room, and my mom was sitting in the lazyboy chair. My grandfather passed away when I was 8 and my little brother was 2. He had this big lazyboy chair in the living room that he always planted himself in. Everyone knew this chair was “grandpa’s chair.”
My little brother goes up to my mom and says “Grandpa wants his chair back.” My mom asks him where grandpa is, thinking he probably didn’t understand death, to which he responds, “He’s right behind you.” My mom BOLTED off that sofa immediately.
8. The Ballerina
When I was a child, I walked into my bedroom and saw what looked like a Japanese girl in black ballet tights with orange stripes. She stopped in front of the mirror, looking sideways at me. When I looked again, the girl DISAPPEARED and I ran from the room, making my mother come back with me.
Years later, my mother confessed to me that she had been frightened that day, because before I was born, she had given ballet classes in that bedroom. The black and orange uniform had belonged to a girl that had been a student of hers who had passed away.
9. The Gut Feeling
Sitting next to a friend at a camp out/canoe trip, I said “I just feel like I need to move, like I shouldn’t be sitting here.” He didn’t move so I laughed a little at myself and kept sitting there. A couple of minutes later my brain ping’d me again and I was like “You know what I’m just gonna move.”
As soon as I stood up, a ball of fire from a flow arts performer on the other side of the camp landed exactly where I was sitting. We were both shocked.
10. The Man in Her Nightmare
My mother always complained that she had a lot of nightmares, but she would never say what her dreams were about. One day while we were at the mall, I suggested that she wait in the food court while I was getting our food. When I returned with our meals, she had a strange look on her face, so I asked her if she was okay. She said she was fine, so we finished our meals and left.
As we were riding down the escalator to leave, I turned to talk to my mother, and I almost had a heart attack because standing behind her was a man in old-fashioned clothing holding one of my mother’s shoulders and looking at me with a very angry expression. She saw the shock on my face right away and shouted at me asking what was wrong. When I told her what I had seen, she started crying and said, ‘You just described the man that tries to kill me every night in my nightmares.’
11. The Bloody Friend
Had a little bed in my old apartment’s rooftop where I used to sleep in good weather nights. Was around 3 a.m. and had a dream that a depressed friend of mine was standing over the edge and jumped out of that rooftop.
I got up and ran as fast as I could and looked down only to see him standing up, bloody, looking at me with broken neck, walking against the walls, reaches me and grabs my shoulder and shakes me back and forth. Ever had a nightmare like those in the movies where you wake yourself up shouting? Had that one, except that I was fully awake and the bed kept shaking for the longest 30 seconds I had in my entire life.
12. Never look in the Peephole
When I was in my teens my parents took a vacation but left their cars in the driveway. It was just my grandmother (who lived in our house), my younger sister and myself for almost two weeks. One random night, I woke up to our dog growling and the motion censor lights in our back yard turning on. I got up and walked towards the front of the house and noticed a shadow coming through the bottom of the door crack (somebody was standing there). I slowly creeped my way to the peephole and when I looked out, I saw a giant eyeball looking in. I froze for a second in a panic and then rushed to the phone to call 911.
As I was running away from the door the person did one really loud slam on the front door and gave off a laugh. As I’m calling the police, I run to one of the windows to see if I can see what the person looks like and notice an old car speeding off down the street. I never knew who it was or why they were there. The police believed it was burglars thinking nobody had been in the house because the cars hadn’t moved in days.
13. But.. it wasn’t my imagination
When I was about ten, I was reading in my room late at night. I had gotten up to use the bathroom and on my way back to bed I stood right in front of a woman figure. She was gold and spongy looking, but you could just tell it was a woman. I stood there saying to myself, “Shut up, it’s just your imagination.” So, I put my hand out to touch her and she moved her hand out to do the same.
I ran and jumped in my bed scared to death.
14. The Lady in Blue
My (ex boyfriend) and I were in Idaho vacationing with his parents and grandparents on a lake lot (that they rent every summer). We were sleeping in bed and I woke up freaking out because I saw an old lady wearing what appeared to be a blue night gown. When I quickly went to put my glasses on the figure disappeared.
The next morning (keep in mind our first interaction with the family was at this point), his grandma asked “was anyone in my room last night? Who has a blue nightgown?”. Let’s just say I didn’t sleep in that room for the remainder of the trip.
15. Monsters Really Live Under The Bed
When I was about eight or nine years old, my mother worked nights and we shared a double bed. One day I felt a strange presence in the bedroom. I had my eyes closed and when I opened them, I saw hands wrapped around the bed from underneath. The hands were made of blood, bone, and hanging skin, and they tried to climb up the bed. I turned away and there was a white “shadow” lying next to me.
I managed, after a loooong time, to get up and run to my grandmother’s room. She didn’t dare come back to the bedroom with me.
16. Mysterious Disappearances
I was in a brand new apartment that had white carpet. This was before I moved anything in, so the apartment was completely empty. I had to replace a light bulb, so I was standing on a stepladder, unscrewing the glass dome with a large black and yellow screwdriver when the screw driver slipped out of my hands. I felt & saw it hit my elbow, then I turned my head away so it wouldn’t hit me in the eyes. I didn’t feel anything, so I figured it must have bounced away from my body after hitting my elbow. But I never heard it hit the floor.
So. Again, this is in a completely empty apartment, with white carpet floors, and I just dropped a black screwdriver. Except I never once heard the screwdriver hit the floor, and it just went missing. I never did find that screwdriver.
17. “They’re scratching my face”
I was babysitting my 4 year old cousin last week. Everything was normal. I put him to bed, read him a book, and he fell asleep. 20 minutes later, I’m laying on the couch and I hear him whispering from the hallway. I get up and sneak up to hear what he’s saying. “They’re scratching my face, they’re scratching my face.” He said it in a calm voice and I asked him who but he didn’t answer.
I walked him back to bed despite my racing heartbeat.
18. Dream into Reality
When I was in college I house sat for my parents. I’m a bit of a scaredy cat so I locked every door leading up to the bedroom when I went to bed at night. I had the weirdest dream that someone unlocked each door and turned on every light. I felt cold, woke up to my dog barking. All of the lights in the house were on and every door open and unlocked. My dog wouldn’t stop barking at nothing in the hallway.
I sat in the shower with my dog and a phone the rest of night scared to death.
19. Mr. Shadow Man
I was sleeping in my basement (pretty much my bedroom) and I woke up at some random time in the night for no reason. Rolled over and saw a black figure, probably around 5’ 10” and typical male physique, standing at the side of my bed. It was standing between the bed and the stairs so there was no way to nope out, I just rolled over and straight up started praying. I rolled back over and it was gone.
The next morning, I was in the shower (also in the basement) and the curtain was pushed to the side, not like all the way but it noticeably moved. Then when I got out of the shower my cello’s D string was plucked three times then rung out (which was laying against my chair in the basement). Then I went upstairs and my brother had a hand print that reached across his neck and cheek, it was too big to be his hand but he was perfectly fine and he slept through the night uninterrupted.
20. Dad Doesn’t Like When I Stay Up Too Late
When my father was still alive, he used to scold me for staying up late. It’s about 2:30 a.m. and I’m watching YouTube on my PS4. Power in the house flickers. Couple minutes later the power goes out for a second, comes right back on. Which is weird because when power goes out, electronics reset. Check the window, nothings happening outside. A couple minutes later, power goes out for almost a whole minute. From the couch, I can see the street light outside is still lit, as well as the other houses on the street. Power comes back on and EVERYTHING is still as it was. Video continues where it left off, clocks haven’t reset, nothing. It’s now 2:37am. I audibly said “ok” and went to bed.
Next morning, I wake up for work. The clock on the oven says 11 something am. My phone says 7:23. It was around 11 when my father left the house the day he passed. Fast forward to January of this year, three year anniversary of my father’s passing, I can’t sleep. I’m upstairs of my NEW home, watching Netflix. Power flickers and goes out. I immediately said “ok I’m going to bed.” Power comes back on. Next morning, getting ready for work, oven clock says 11:41am.
21. Spirit Caress
My father died in 1996, when I was 10 years old and my brother was 12. We slept in a bunk bed, and my brother had the upper bunk, while I had the lower one. One night, I woke up in the middle of the night with someone softly caressing my head. I thought it was my brother and ignored it. When I went back to sleep, the feeling returned. I got out of bed to confront my brother, but he was snoring quietly. I went back to bed and the caressing began a third time.
I’ve never prayed so hard in my life. I prayed until sunrise the next morning.
22. Grandmother’s Spirit
My grandmother lived with my family during the last months of her life. She died on the sofa in our house one Sunday night. The following week, I started to see someone in white passing through the house occasionally, and when I went looking for them, there was never anyone there. My sister claimed that she actually saw physical forms.
We were terrified for a good while, until my sister and I could no longer sleep in our rooms because we were too afraid. My mother prayed, burned the couch in the backyard, and we never saw anything again.
23. Possessed Friend Sleep Over
One time my husband and I had some friends over to eat pizza. One of my friends who has always been very ‘mystical’ began to feel ill in the kitchen and excused himself to our bedroom. Once he was in the bedroom, he started to rock back and forth and giggle in a voice that made my hair stand on end. I ran out of the room, shivering with fear. My husband went in to check on him and soon returned saying our friend wanted to talk to me.
I went into the bedroom where my friend walked up to me with his eyes rolled back into his, made a few little grunts and said, “this is my house.” Then he knelt and kissed my feet, rubbed his hand on my belly, and motioned as though he was nursing a baby. When he knelt again the phone rang loudly and he came out of the trance. About a month later I found out I was pregnant, which may explain the gesture he made. My father-in-law had died eight months before this incident, which might explains the ‘this is my house.’ To this day it still terrifies me.
24. Feels Like That Ghost Beaten Me
Four years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night and there was a woman in a black dress standing beside my bed. When I sat up, she started to accuse me of having done things that I hadn’t done, saying that I had apparently stolen someone from her. I don’t know what was going through my head to argue with a ghost, but eventually I decided to ignore her and go back to sleep. She then pulled me out the bed while attacking my body. She suddenly disappeared and I was so afraid I couldn’t get back to sleep.
The whole thing felt so real that I was actually sore the next day, especially around my ankles where she had grabbed me while pulling me from the bed.
25. Could be the Devil’s Joke
I was once playing with a Ouija board in my room with a friend. We tried to light some candles and, crazy as it sounds, they just wouldn’t light, no matter how long I held the match to them. After a little while, I managed to light them, and we turned off the lights and closed the windows. Out of nowhere my friend’s mother called her, asking if everything was okay with her. Apparently she suddenly felt a ‘pang of worry’. After my friend calmed her mother down, we started using the Ouija board, but nothing happened, other than the candle flames moving kind of strangely.
Later in the evening, after my friend had already gone home, I felt a sensation of being watched. I ignored it and went to sleep, but had nightmares about being chased by a scary beast with enormous claws, and when I managed to wake up I saw that my legs were scratched up. I couldn’t sleep any more, so I threw the Ouija board in the trash, and slept cuddled up next to my mother for two weeks.
26. The Shining Old Man
When I was 13 or 14 years old, I shared a bedroom with my sister and there was a mirror on the wall across from my bed. I woke up to a very bright light one night, as if someone had been shining a flashlight in my face. When I opened my eyes I saw an old man in a hospital gown with a really long beard in front of the mirror. It was the old man that was shining so brightly.
He was putting on a feather necklace and saw me looking in the mirror. I was so terrified that when he started to turn to look at me, I froze. I couldn’t call out to anyone because my voice wouldn’t come out, and I couldn’t even move. I closed my eyes and didn’t open them again until it was time to get up. I went to school looking like a mess, because I went days without looking in the mirror. I never stayed alone in the bedroom again or in any place with mirrors. To this day there’s no mirror in my bedroom.
27. The Headless Man
When I was a teenager, I had some friends over at my place for a sleepover. That night, in the wee hours of the morning, we all woke up to the sound of somebody calling from outside the bedroom door. When we opened the door, We saw a headless man right in front of the group of us. He was wearing slacks and brown shoes. We screamed so loud that it woke up my parents, who came running. He headless man bolted out of my house. My parents never saw him, and clearly never believed us.
The creepiest part of it all was that the next day, nobody but me remembered what had happened. It’s like their memories were completely wiped. I still remember it to this day, and I’m almost 30 and have never shared this story until now.
28. The Hell Kitchen
The very first hotel that I worked at, I started at the front desk and worked 3pm-11pm shift. There was someone there with me from 2pm-10pm, so I always had a little more than an hour where I was alone at the desk. Our kitchen closed at 10pm so usually by 10:15pm, it was only the bartender and I still there. One night, it was almost 11pm and there was a huge noise that came from the kitchen area. The bartender and I ran back there and saw that every single pot, pan, ladle, spoon (everything else that was hanging from the ceiling racks), were on the ground.
After our shift, we watched the camera back and there was NO ONE in the kitchen when it happened. I have no explanation for it other than it was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me and I could not get out of there fast enough.
29. Party on the Bar? Or just my Head?
One evening, I was alone in my bedroom doing homework. Suddenly I heard the sound of footsteps coming from downstairs, so I got up to check it out. Before I started downs the steps, I heard the sound of bottles breaking in my father’s bar downstairs, which went on for a little while. I made my way downstairs, but when I reached the landing I could see broken bottles and glasses all over the floor and I could hear people screaming in the house, even though I was the only person home.
I locked myself in my room and stayed there until my parents got home. And guess what? There wasn’t a single broken bottle or glass, or anyone except for me in the house.
30. The Funeral Procession
A former teacher I had actually told me this story. When she was about 15 years old, she used to go exploring waterfalls with her friends. It was a Sunday and they had decided to go to a waterfall that was close to a little farm. They were all walking down the road when a long line of people appeared in front of them, walking away from the farm towards the city. As they approached, they realized it was a funeral procession.
They passed the procession and could see that it was made up of only men who were all dressed in black. They all had their heads lowered in such a way that it wasn’t possible to see their faces. When the group of friends turned to watch the procession go, it had vanished.
31. The Unlocked Door and the Old Book in the Fridge
I’d just moved into a basement suite. Every time I went out I would lock the deadbolt but not the door handle but when I came home a lot of the time the deadbolt would be unlocked and the door handle would be locked. At first I thought I was just confused about which one I had locked so I started paying more attention. It kept happening and I realized someone must be going in when I went out. I assumed it was the landlady and was annoyed but didn’t say anything at first.
Then one day, I came home and found the wrong lock locked again. I went in pissed off and opened the fridge to get something to eat. There was a book in the fridge that I had never seen before. I collected old books and this one was published in the early 1900s which creeped me out completely because it was like it had been left for me. I finally called my landlady and asked if she was going into my apartment and told her what had happened. She freaked right out, said the last person who lived there was a really creepy guy with mental health and drug problems. She got all the locks changed that day and it never happened again.
32. The Rocking Chair Man
My grandfather passed away just a few weeks after I was born. Never met the guy, never knew what he looked like. When I was 5 years old, I started to see this man in our rocking chair. I called him the rocking chair man. My parents thought it was that ‘imaginary friend’ stage, but it started to bug them when I told them every single day.
They finally questioned me about it. I told them every detail I could remember and finally they showed me a picture of a man – It was my grandfather. To this day, I’m 22 now, every time I dream, he is in the background somewhere. I remember when I dreamed about my high school graduation and I looked in the stands and I saw him with my parents. I like to think that he’s just watching out for me and being there when he’s not really there.
33. Mysterious Voices Wanted to Help
In 1984, a woman was sitting at home reading when she suddenly heard a very clear voice inside her head. The voice told her, “Please don’t be afraid. I know it must be shocking for you to hear me speaking to you like this, but this is the easiest way I could think of. My friend and I used to work at the Children’s Hospital and we would like to help you.”
After a series of medical tests, including psychological assessments, the patient was eventually diagnosed with a large benign meningioma (brain tumor). The voice continued to speak to her throughout the medical testing. After she had surgery to remove the tumor, the patient heard from the voices one last time after regaining consciousness when she heard them say, “We are pleased to have helped you. Goodbye.”
She reported no post-surgical problems and never heard the voice again. The study of a patient diagnosing her own brain tumor with help of mysterious voices in her head was published by the British Medical Journal (BMJ).
34. My Father’s Doppelganger
About ten years ago (I was 8) I was visiting my dad at his house. My stepmother was in the kitchen and I was in the family room. We both saw my father, wearing a red flannel shirt and blue jeans, walk around the corner from the living room and start walking up the stairs. I followed him and called his name as he went up the stairs. He turned back and looked at me, got to the top of the stairs and went around the corner. I called his name again, then from the living room my dad popped his head up over the couch and asked what I wanted. He had been asleep on the couch the entire time, yet both my stepmother and I CLEARLY saw him, wearing the clothes he had on the whole day and all, go from the living room up the stairs.
It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. Both my stepmother and I still remember it and talk about it to this day. Also, it was broad daylight, so it wasn’t some uncanny illusion of the night.
35. We all Have The Same Dream
I had a dream when I was a teenager. We lived on the hillside overlooking the city. I was standing on our terrace just watching the world die. Water covered most of the city. What wasn’t drowned was burning, pillars of smoke covered the horizon. But oddly enough it was serene. You couldn’t hear screaming or chaos, just tinders snapping like a campfire along the shore. It smelled like the sea too. Then I looked to my right, and there was my dad. To his right, was my paternal grandmother. They both just smiled a sad smile which made me realize that I couldn’t move. We were stuck standing in mud.
I woke up after that. After breakfast, I didn’t say anything until my dad and I were the only ones left at the table. I asked him if he had a dream last night. He described the exact same thing and he said he saw me too. Later on that day, my dad, who had checked in with my grandmother, said that she had the exact same dream.
36. The Mysterious Bones
I worked as a highway litter crew supervisor. One day, one kid flagged me over to him and showed me a weird bag he’d found. The bag was a very thick, semi-translucent plastic, double bagged and tied off at the top with black electrical tape. It was down in a ditch covered with brush, so the kid and I dragged it to the side of the road for closer inspection. It was really heavy and it took two of us to get it out of the ditch. Once we got it to the road side it became apparent that the bag was filled with a reddish-brown slush and a bunch of hard pieces.. bones. It was then that I realized that this was a sack filled with a rotting corpse of some kind.
I called my boss, and he told me to call the police. The police showed up pretty nonchalantly, but became visibly upset once he’d inspected the bag himself. He took down my statement and contact information then shooed us along as he called into the station for assistance. We never heard anything back from the police, and I never did find out what, or who exactly, was in the bag.
37. Strange Flick
The cameras at my work are programmed to flick to areas of motion when they are inactive. One night at like 3am when I was alone for a four block radius, all of them flicked to the door right outside of my office.
There are 190 separate camera feeds.
38. It wasn’t a Dream
I fell asleep at my desk at work one day. I must have been very sleepy because I passed out quick. While asleep I saw my 9 year old nephew jumping on the sofa at my sister’s place. He saw me watching him, stopped and had this look of utter shock on his face. After that, I instantly woke up feeling strange and disoriented. It felt real.
Later that day, I visit some of my family at my sister’s place. My nephew comes running up to me saying that he saw a ghost while he was playing on the sofa earlier. My heart almost stopped. I haven’t told anyone this. They wouldn’t believe me. Only my nephew & I know about it. I may have astral projected.
39. A Dream Come True
About 5 years ago I had a dream I was in a horrible 3 car accident with my then-gf and my younger brother. The car was totaled, there was smoke, my gf and my brother went to the hospital and I that I died because I was pierced through the head with some sort of rod.
Fast forward 2 years later, and my brother and I get a ride from girlfriend to go to a graduation party for a mutual friend. Gf pulls out into an intersection. I immediately recognize everything from the dream and I flinch to the left. Everything goes black for me for a few seconds after that, but when I regain consciousness I look around and see the exact same scene as in my dream except I lived. The car we were in was totaled. There was smoke from the other two cars involved and a rod that went through the windshield about 6 inches to the right of my head.
It was the most intense moment of my life. Since then I have always kept track of my dreams and paid very close attention to them.
40. The Homeless Ghost
One night, I was out hunting some boar and found a nice camping spot. Made camp and got set up and out of nowhere a guy walks up and asks for food. Instantly, I knew something wasn’t right about this guy, he gave me a terrible terrible feeling. 25 miles from any road or civilization and someone just happens on my campsite? As soon as I saw him I knew to unlatch my pistol from the holster and keep the safety off. I make dinner and we eat and chitchat. After we eat, he says his thanks and walks off into the brush. I passed out around 3am with my hand on my gun, slept lightly.
I woke up and decided to try and find where he came from and where he went. Normally, I’m a damn good tracker, but I couldn’t find his tracks leading in or out of camp. It was soft kind of muddy ground and should have shown his tracks. Nothing. Not even a broken branch or a smashed leaf. Haven’t been hunting there since.
41. Spirit Moving Things
When I was 15 years old, I stayed up late watching a TV marathon with my sister. In the middle of the night, after my sister had fallen asleep, I saw the nearby computer mouse start moving by itself. I called my mother into the room and she said it was probably a rat that was pulling on the cable from underneath the desk, and that I should just go to sleep.
Suddenly, I swear I saw a black figure with no face or human features behind the bookcase. It looked in my direction and pointed. I nearly shat myself with fear! I remember saying, ‘Who are you? I do not want you in my house! Nobody wants you here! Get out of here now!’ The thing left, and I actually heard it hit the cabinet before it just went through it. The cabinet began to sway, and the door slammed and made a loud bang!
42. The Volume Suddenly Drops
When I was about 10 years old we lived at my grandparents house for about a year. My grandpa uses hearing aids and usually has the TV volume really loud and his favorite things to watch are westerns. One night I woke up because he was watching TV too loud. I remember hearing glasses clanking, people chatting and faint music. So at the time I pictured it to be saloon in a western film, so I starting heading downstairs to ask him to turn it down. I get downstairs, cross the family room and kitchen and headed down the short hallway that led to the TV room. Right when I entered the TV room the noises all fell silent. I quickly went upstairs to my room and woke up my sister, but she just brushed it off and told me to let her sleep.
When I think about it now it creeps me out.
43. Thank God I’m able to move!
When I was a young child living in one of the high crime areas of town, I woke up in the middle of the night out of nowhere. This was something that never, ever happened to me, given how sound of a sleeper I was. I left my bedroom, went down the stairs and past the front door to get to the kitchen.
After getting a drink of water I turned around to go back upstairs to my bedroom. The front door was open. It hadn’t been open just a moment ago. I stood, completely frozen, staring at that door for a good ten minutes before I could bring myself to move. When I finally did go over and shut the door, our porch creaked in the background as though someone was walking on it as I closed it. It was the scariest moment of my childhood. I still get the willies thinking about it.
44. Bloody-Faced Nightmare
One afternoon in college I came back from classes and decided to sit on the couch and have a snack. After that I just passed out. I had a nightmare of some bloody faced demon-ish thing screaming in my ear at the top of its lungs. Woke up and went about the rest of my day.
My roommate comes back later that night and goes into his room as I’m sitting in the main living area. At some point he lets out this random startled scream, which leads to me running down the hall too see what’s going on. He looks at me and goes, “I swear to God someone with a bloody face just walked from your bedroom into the bathroom.”
I never told him about my nightmare I had earlier in the day. I didn’t sleep for two days. Nothing ever happened again.
45. Strange Smell in Granny’s House
My grandmother’s house had a very distinct smell. Nothing bad though, just a grandmother’s house smell. Anyway, when she came to visit us she always used to sit in a specific chair in the living room. Shortly after she passed away, my father, my older sister, and myself came home and when we walked into the living room and we all smelled her. My Dad said “Hello Ethel” and the smell disappeared.
I would be skeptical if just one of us experienced this but it was all three of us.
46. Disappeared and Appeared out of nowhere
I had gotten a check and I distinctly remember putting it on my desk where I always put important papers so I wouldn’t lose it. Later that day when I went to grab it it was gone. I looked for the check for weeks without any luck.
One night after getting home from work I was just about to get out of the car and I looked down and the check was in my lap. How it got from my desk to my car I still have no idea.
47. Dream Loop
I once had this dream. I woke up, did my normal stuff, then walked into the bathroom. I knew that something was off and that this was a dream, but I followed through. I look in the bathroom mirror, and the most terrifying thing is in my reflection. I scream, and wake up. It is now dark outside. I go to my bathroom to wake up and splash some water on my face, hesitantly look in the mirror, same thing happens. I wake up again, refusing to look in my mirror. It felt like hours. I waited for the dream to end. I eventually went into the bathroom, looked in the mirror, same terrifying reflection. I wake up again, walk past bathroom, go talk to mother, everything in my house is strange. It was all very dark. She’s standing alone in kitchen, I’m terrified. None of this feels like a dream at all.
I wake up, do my normal thing, don’t look in mirror, go to school, everything is normal. I go to bed. Wake up. I finally actually wake up. I dreamt an entire school day. I ask everyone about if any of the things I remember happening actually happened. It didn’t. I still am waiting to look in the mirror, and wake up in my bed again just to repeat the hell that experience was.
48. Who’s Pranking Me?
I had a family member pass away and after that I kept seeing this crow coming around. It would land on the back of the work truck and stay there while we were driving. It would also land on the roof where I was working and continue to caw at me over and over.
A few weeks later, I’m watering my garden and the crow is up in the tree cawing at me. I look up and say what’s up uncle Nick. As soon as I turn to return to the house and turn off the hose, I get sprayed in the back with it. I instantly whip around and look and its laying about 6 or 7 feet from me just trickling out on the ground. I don’t know how it happened but definitely scared me.
49. The Lightning Strike
Three years ago, on a VERY VERY hot summer day. We could see some dark clouds forming on the horizon from our garden. So me and my little brother fired up our computer and checked the weather radar, there was a pretty bad patch of rain and thunder on a collision course with our town.
When the clouds were finally over our heads, the whole family was in the yard looking at lightning that was cracking some miles away. Out of nowhere lightning hit our greenhouse, which I was 2/3 meters away from. I could actually feel the static on my arm-hair, and saw my own shadow in the whitish blue light as I ducked out of reflex. The buzzing sound was intense as an arc of lightning crawled across the iron gutters of the greenhouse.
This all happend in one and a half second, next moment, all of my family members where with me under our back porch. All quite literally shocked, no one hit. Creepiest thing I can recall by far.
50. The Ghost with the Foul Mouth
My paternal grandfather passed away, and after the funeral, our entire family returned to the little farm where he had lived with my grandmother because we didn’t want to leave her alone. My grandfather was an extremely irritable old fellow who went around grumbling about pretty much anything, including any loud sound, or voice, or laughter. My aunts and cousins and I were sitting on the veranda talking, trying to dissipate the air of sadness.
After an exhausting day, we were ready to laugh a little, but as soon as we did, we heard shuffling footsteps from inside the house, and a grumbling voice say, “shove that yelling up your a**”, EXACTLY HOW MY GRANDFATHER DID WHEN HE WAS ALIVE. We all froze; it was as if he were actually there. A short time later, my grandmother ended up moving away from the farm.
