Wealthy NBA Stars & The Women Behind Them

Michael Jordan

Even though he hasn’t played in a NBA game since 2003, Michael Jordan is still the gold standard for basketball players — and it’s safe to say that Yvette Prieto is the gold standard for basketball wives. Born in Cuba, Prieto (who is now 39) spent most of her working years as a fashion model. After marrying in 2013 (the wedding reportedly cost Jordan $10-$15 million) the couple welcomed twin daughters in 2014.

Jordan (who is now 55) also has three children from his first marriage. Speaking of his first marriage… In 2006, after 17-years together, Jordan and his first wife Juanita agreed to go their separate ways. It is reported that Juanita received a $168 million settlement, making it the largest celebrity divorce settlement on public record at the time. But don’t feel too bad for MJ, according to Forbes he’s worth a cool $1.65 billion.

Lonzo Ball

Unless the Lakers sign LeBron this offseason, you could make the argument that Denise Garcia is the most important asset to the franchise. Why? According to sources around the Ball family, Denise is the person who keeps Lonzo calm when LaVar (his nutty father) makes headlines with one of his many ridiculous comments.

Aside from her role as the Ball family mediator, the UC Riverside soccer player has been a huge hit on social media thanks to her stunning good looks. The two met during their time at Chino Hills High School in California — they were both star athletes. While the jury is still out on whether or not Ball will become the player LaVar thinks he is, Lonzo has already struck gold with Garcia.

Stephen Curry

Fresh off of leading Davidson to the Elite 8 in the 2008 March Madness tournament, Steph was feeling himself, and thought it was the right time to ask out Ayesha. They originally met when they were teenagers at their church youth group in Charlotte. After turning him down a few times, Ayesha finally agreed to go out with him. She was hesitant to date an athlete because in her opinion – “they’re all too arrogant.” But on their first date they hit it off, and the rest is history…

The pair got married three years later in 2011, and have since welcomed two daughters, Riley, 3, and Ryan, 1. As he has established himself as one of the best players in the NBA, she’s been making a name for herself on the culinary scene with a best selling cookbook, a show on the Cooking Channel, and a restaurant in their hometown of San Francisco.

In June or 2017, the Warriors signed Curry to a five year deal with $201 million, the league’s first $200 million contract.

Ben Simmons

After just one season in the NBA, it’s crystal clear that Ben Simmons is a superstar. Based on his recent track record, the 76ers young stud loves to date celebrities. He first dated fitness model and social media star Brittany Renner. However, he has since moved on to rap/pop star and social media celeb Dylan Gonzalez (she has 1.1 million followers on IG).

The former UNLV basketball star left college last to focus on her music career. The two were first linked in 2017, but rumors surrounding the couple seem to hint at an on and off relationship. Considering their popularity, travel schedules, and youth — it shouldn’t come as a surprise that these young celebrities are having trouble making things work.

UPDATE: Simmons is now reportedly dating Kendall Jenner! While she might not be a “Kardashian” the curse might cover the Jenner name too!

Tristan Thompson

After what seemed to be shaping up as a somewhat normal relationship for anyone involved with a Kardashian, Tristan Thompson was actually the one to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. Just days before Khloe gave birth to their first child in Ohio, pictures and videos surfaced that showed Thompson hooking up with another woman at a lounge in New York City.

If you’re a Kardashian fan, their relationship has been filled with the juicy type of drama you crave. If you’re a basketball fan, you just want it all to go away. Like it or not, you can’t keep the Kardashians out of the spotlight!

Aside from their off the court drama, on the court, Thompson has put together his worst season as a pro, averaging career lows in points, rebounds, and minutes played… The “Kardashian Curse” strikes again!

Kobe Bryant

If you were following the tabloids back in 2003, then you know that marriage wasn’t always easy for Kobe and Vanessa Bryant. Their ups and downs have been well document, so we won’t get into the details here, but let’s just say, there’s no better way to say sorry than a $4 million ring. Well done Kobe!

The only good thing to come out of Kobe’s short lived rap career was the fact he met background dancer Vanessa Laine while shooting a video in 1999. After two years of dating, the young couple married in 2001, and have had three daughters since.

During his 20 seasons in the NBA, Kobe made over $323 million on the court, plus another $365 million off the court, with huge endorsement deals from Nike, Hublot, and Panini.

 Klay Thompson

Before you jump down our throats in the comment section — “This article is old! They broke up a long time ago!” Don’t worry, we know they did. But this one was too good not to leave off the list. Pro athletes, basketball players in particular, are not known to be the most faithful boyfriends and husband. Klay Thompson seemed to be completely smitten with Instagram model Hannah Storm, but their relationship ended up being short lived, and it ended with a bang.

Stocking caught Thompson “in the act” of cheating on her, and she publicly announced it on Twitter. Don’t believe us? Check out the image below (P.S. Take a close look at the comment below her Tweet. Andrew Bogut is hilarious).

Bradley Beal

Wizards young sharpshooter Bradley Beal has been dating model Kamiah Adams for several years. The couple hides very little of their relationship from the public, and fans can see plenty of picture of them on Instagram.

Speaking of Instagram — Adams does a lot of her modeling on IG and several companies pay her top dollar to advertise their products on her feed/story.

Beal isn’t the first celebrity Adams has been with. She previously dated Lil’ Fizz (you might remember him from B2K) and was featured on the VH1 show Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood. After breaking up with Fizz, Adams began dating Beal soon after.

Beal, still just 24-years old, signed a 5-year max deal in 2016, worth $127.2 million.

Kevin Love

If you’re an avid reader of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, then you might recognize Kevin Love’s newest girlfriend, Kate Bock. Since making her debut in 2013, at the age of 20, Bock has appeared in every issue as one of the magazines most famous bikini babes. In addition to her sizzling swimsuit features, Bock also models for Victoria’s Secret. Talk about a power couple!

Love has 2-years and $49 million remaining on the 5-year, $113 million contract he signed in 2015.

Love’s time in Cleveland has been a rollercoaster ride, for Love, and the Cavs. There’s a good chance he’ll end up changing teams sooner rather than later.

Draymond Green

Draymond Green met longtime girlfriend Jelissa Hardy (they’ve been dating almost 10 years) while the two of them were enrolled at Michigan State. Hardy was a basketball player herself, before chronic back injuries forced her to call it quits and become a full-time cheerleader for Draymond.

After the pair graduated in 2012, Hardy briefly pursued a modeling career, but she’s now a full-time mom in sunny California. Green and Hardy had a son together in 2017, and Hardy has a daughter from a previous relationship.

Green, now 27-years old, has two more seasons remaining on the 5-year, $82 million contract he signed in 2015.

Gordon Hayward

Talk about getting married young: Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward proposed to girlfriend Robyn Van Vliet on Christmas Day in 2013, only a few months after she had graduated high school (Hayward was 23 years old when he proposed). The young couple relocated to Boston with their two children in the summer of 2017, when Hayward signed a 4-year, $127.8 million contract with the Celtics.

According to reports, Hayward’s rehab from a gruesome ankle injury on opening night has gone according to plan, and there’s no reason to think he’ll suffer any long term consequences from the ugly injury.

Russell Westbrook

Born and raised in California. Was one of the best high school basketball players in the state, and was therefore heavily recruited by big time D-1 schools. Excelled as a member of the UCLA Bruins, and was described by teammates as “the fastest player on the team” and someone who “excels in transition.” Sound familiar?

Ironically, that’s the story of both Nina Earl and Russell Westbrook. These college sweethearts have been together since their UCLA days. They were married in 2015, and in 2017 they welcomed a baby boy (Noah) into the world. Although it’s way too early to know for sure, based on his genetics, there’s a good chance Noah is going to be a superstar athlete.

Dwyane Wade

Actress Gabrielle Union has a long track record of dating pro athletes. In high school she dated NBA superstar Jason Kidd, and in 2001 she married former Broncos running back Chris Howard (they divorced in 2005). In 2014, the celebrity couple had a star-studded wedding in Miami with more celebrities than you’d see at an award show. The wedding was rumored to have cost at least $5 million, and the guests in attendance included; Kevin Hart, LeBron James, John Legend, and Ludacris — just to name a few.

Union, most famous for her roles in Bring It On and Bad Boys II — has accumulated a net worth of $16 million. Over his 15-year career, Wade has earned $193 million in NBA checks, leaving his net worth somewhere in the range of $95-105 million.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks megastar Giannis Antetokounmpo — is affectionately known as the “Greek Freak” — for his other wordly combination of size and athleticism. Plus the fact that a nickname was 100% necessary when nobody has any idea how to pronounce your name.

An athlete herself, Mariah Riddlesprigger was a standout on the volleyball team at Rice University. After finishing college, she got a job as an intern for the NBA, and her first assignment landed her in Milwaukee to work for the team’s front office. Presumably, that is where she met Antetokounmpo. According to social media, it seems the two have been together since 2016.

Kawhi Leonard

After all the drama that’s played out this season between superstar Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs, it’s only fitting that we use a picture of him on the bench in street clothes. But that’s not the point of this story, so let’s move…

Leonard has been with girlfriend Kishele Shipley since college. The two met while attending San Diego State University, and when Leonard joined the Spurs, she relocated with him to Texas.

For a professional athlete, Leonard is very private about his family life. He doesn’t let a lot of pictures of them get out, and you won’t find much (if anything) on social media. According to Leonard, he tried to keep the couple’s relationship a secret to protect Shipley from the media. In 2016, the couple had their first child.

Damian Lillard

After entering the league in 2012, Blazers point guard Damian Lillard quickly established himself as one of the top young talents in the game. His journey to NBA stardom is very different than most. Lillard was not heavily recruited out of high school and only regarded as a two-star prospect by Rivals.com. Of the few scholarship offers he received, Lillard chose to play for Weber State University, a mid-major school in Utah.

Like Dame, his girlfriend Kay’la Hanson, who is a nurse, has also worked very hard to get to where she is today. So even though she’s dating a NBA superstar who’s current contract with pay him a whopping total of $140 million over the next few years, she’s still not willing to give up her career and become a trophy wife.

LeBron James

If LeBron James is the “King” of the NBA, does that make Savannah Brinson the queen of the league? Considering they were high school sweethearts (and the fact he’s one of the world’s most famous athletes) the odds of their relationship lasting was pretty slim.

They have three children together: sons LeBron Jr. and Bryce Maximus, and daughter Zhuri. The James family splits their time between Cleveland and Los Angeles.

In addition to his 30,000 square-foot house in Cleveland (worth $9.2 million), LeBron bought two homes in Los Angeles, the first he purchased in 2015 for $21 million and the most recent was purchased in 2017 for $23 million. That’s over $53 million in real estate! But $53 million is a drop in the bucket for a guy with a $1 billion Nike contract.

Al Horford

In 2003, at the age of 18, Amelia Vega became the first Dominican woman to be named Miss Universe. Fast forward eight years later to 2011, Vega marries one of the NBA’s most underrated players, bigman Al Horford.

When she’s not in Boston, Amelia spends her time in Miami, where she owns and operates two clothing boutiques named “Essence By Amelia Vega.”

Between his nine seasons in Atlanta, and his current four year, $113 million contract with Boston, Horford will have made a total of $189 million from NBA paychecks. A husband who is a multi time NBA all-star, a wife who is a beauty queen turned successful entrepreneur, and a bank account big enough to last fifty lifetime’s — not a bank life for the Horfords.

DeMar DeRozan

DeMar DeRozan — who has been one of the most prolific scorers in the NBA since entering the league as the 9th overall pick in the 2009 draft. Like many other NBA stars, DeRozan was a “one-and-done” player at the University of Southern California. Although his time at the school was short lived, it was long enough to meet the future mother of his children.

How’d they meet? Basketball, of course. Morrison was a standout player in high school, and went on to play for the Trojans while in college. Derozan was actually the women’s team manager while Morrison was on the basketball team.

They were reportedly engaged in 2016 — shortly after DeRozan signed a 5-year, $139 million contract extension — but recent posts on her Instagram indicate she’s actually single.

Chris Paul

You don’t have to be a basketball fan to know who Chris Paul is. After all, those State Farm commercials see to be playing on a never ending loop. CP3, who turns 33 years old this year, has always been more of a family man, as opposed to the stereotypical NBA star enjoying life as a bachelor. Paul married his college sweetheart, Jada Crawley, in 2011.

Shortly after being traded to the Rockets, the Paul family purchased a massive 18,711-square-foot estate just outside of Houston. They say everything is bigger in Texas, and the cliche certainly holds true when it comes to Paul’s massive mansion.

The mansion has nine bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, a game room, a theatre room, and a massive library. According to reports, he paid well under the $8 million asking price.

Without including his endorsement money, or the mega contract he’s going to sign with Houston in the offseason, Paul has already earned a staggering $187 million during his 13 seasons in the NBA.

Matt Barnes

As an outsider looking in, it appeared that Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan had the perfect family, and the perfect relationship. They have beautiful twin boys, they were getting paid handsomely to pose together in magazines, and Gloria was a reality TV star. But less than two years into their marriage, Barnes and Govan decided to split.

After their separation, things were kosher between the two, but their relationship took a turn for the worst when word got out that Gloria was dating former NBA player Derek Fisher. If you’re plugged into the NBA rumor-mill, you’re probably familiar with the messy love triangle between Matt, Gloria and D-Fish, who is Matt’s ex-teammate! Talk about a violation of the bro code.
